Your past shouldn't be the first thing a background check finds.
Since 2023, Arizona lets eligible people petition the court to seal records of an arrest, a dismissed charge, an acquittal or a conviction. Once sealed, in most situations you may lawfully state that you were never arrested for, charged with or convicted of that offense.
Dismissed charges, acquittals and arrests with no charges filed can be sealed with no waiting period.
Convictions carry a waiting period after you finish your sentence: 2 to 10 years depending on the class of offense. Petty offenses qualify immediately.
Dangerous offenses, dangerous crimes against children, serious or violent felonies, sex trafficking and most felony sex offenses cannot be sealed.
